"A COFFEE JOURNAL... FROM North to South, Farm to Cup" is the first coffee-table book that provides an informative and authoritative coverage of the life of coffee in the Philippines.
Written by coffee connoisseur Roberto S. Francisco, who also took the pictures that appear in the book, "A Coffee Journal... From North to South, Farm to Cup" reflects his love affair with coffee which started 15 years ago in his mother's garage.
"The first photo to document my coffee business is that of my roaster," says Francisco. "To this day, the photo hangs on my office wall."
Francisco is a foremost authority on coffee. His company, Boyd Coffee Philippines, is recognized for its holistic approach to developing coffee programs with high standards in quality and service, providing effective coffee business solutions, training and cafe setup (coffeology), and
the import and distribution of coffee machines.
Francisco began taking snpshots with his SLR during trips to a farm or to a client, from Batangas and Sagada to Bukidnon. He documented everything, from coffee machine installations to training sessions and coffee education seminars.
Looking at his stack of photos one day, he realized he had something more valuable and far more interesting to show.
"These are photos that tell their own story," he says, "and when brought together, become a visual narrative of coffee life in the Philippines."
"A Cofee Journal contains a vast wealth of knowledge about coffee as told to me by farmers, harvesters, roasters, traders, retailers and, of course, coffee drinkers, "he adds.
Edited by Sonia Ner and designed by Felix Mago Miguel, the book is a photo excursion to the subcultures and traditions of coffee provinces and a tribute to the individuals involved in every stage of coffee-making, from north to south, from farm to cup
