In a letter dated December 30, Boyd Coffee Co. (Phils), Inc. president Roberto Francisco makes a clarification on the story entitled, “A Coffee Solution” written by Angelica A. Angel.

“While it is true that the common practice now is to import coffee for the coutnry’s needs because of the lethargic coffee production, Boyd Phils. has not taken this easy way out. In fact, it is our policy to use locally grown coffee – which is of good quality – for all our house and custom-made blends. We get our coffee beans (arabica, robusta, Liberica and excelsa) from different coffee producing regions in the country.

“By sourcing from our local farmers, we hope to contribute to the growing effort to help our coffee industry back on its feet. In fact, we have been doing this ever since we started our business.

“We are also actively supporting similar programs like ‘Save the Barako’ movement, which hopes to put the Philippines back in the world coffee map through the propagation of the almost extinct coffee variety.

“We share this dream that the Philippines will become a major coffee supplier again. And we want to say that we are doing our part to make this dream a reality.”
